Picture
The Units of Study in Opinion, Information and Narrative Writing have lessons woven throughout each unit on grammar and mechanics.

Below are just a few examples of the many resources found within these units.  Be sure to see the Mid-Workshop Teaching Point and the Share. Resources for teaching and assessment (such as the editing checklists) are available on Heinemann.  Please see Jen or Natalie if you need any help finding these resources.

This professional resource for teachers from Words Their Way has recommendations for activities that not only help students correctly spell words, but also includes recommendations and routines for expanding students' understandings of the meanings of words, their proper use in context and even parts of speech.

For information on "Digging Deeper: Beyond Word Sorts" please see the documents by Developmental Stage on our Words Their Way tab.  Please see Jen or Natalie for additional support.

This professional resource from Jeff Anderson is new and targeted for teachers in grades 1-5.  The easy-to-implement 10-minute lessons address both lessons in mechanics and language. If you do not have a copy of the book in your school, but would like to try out lessons, please see Jen or Natalie.
